Logo design for Greater Vancouver drywall firm
Nolan Frehlick and Brandon Gray of DBG Drywall Inc. approached my design agency, PalbergWERX Creative Direction, to create a fresh identity and website for the Vancouver based drywall business. They were referred to me by We Stripe Parking Lots, for whom I also created a new identity and website - read more about We Stripe (source: PalbergWERX Creative Direction) After my initial discovery meeting with Nolan it's time to do some more research into the drywall industry as well

YouTube cooking channel logo and identity design
I was so excited when my wife Karen told me over our morning coffee, that she wanted to start a YouTube cooking channel - La Cocina de Karen - and wanted my help to build an identity for her. Her channel would be a Spanish language cooking program in which she creates recipies from scratch as well as share stories and anecdotes about Ecuador, her country of origin. I love ethnic food and often binge-watch cooking programs when the personality of the show's host is quirky, fun

Logo and business card re-design for a Residential/Commercial construction company
When meeting with a new client it's important to have a clear overview of their company function as well as how they view their own business brand. Ideally, I'd really like to understand how the clients existing customers, staff and partners view the brand, which may be at odds or come as a surprise to the owner. I accomplish this via distributed questionnaires and discussions with staff and clients. Jonathan Kerridge of Vancouver based Lido Properties Ltd approached my desig

How to create a strong self promo - Part 2
Continuing with my design agencies self promotion pieces to get PalbergWERX Creative Direction noticed in this over stimulated communications age, I began work on my second famous artistic image in history. You can read Part 1 in this series HERE. This time I choose M.C. Escher's work 'Humanity'. Again, there have been numerous imitations and this ribbon type illustration is well known to the general public. This is a much more challenging project as the illustration is very

Logo/brand design for the tough construction sector
PalbergWERX Creative Direction got a call from a young entrepreneur about to hard launch his business in asphalt painting. He was looking for a Vancouver design agency to build his logo and he found me online and liked the way I differentiated myself from the competition. He had been in the construction sector for a number of years and, as you might imagine, he was direct and to the point. He asked, 'Why do you offer service X for this dollar amount, I called a number of Vanc

Television series script proposal cover and process
PalbergWERX Creative Direction is a new Vancouver based design agency and I was commisioned to design the packaging for a television series proposal for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The original concept was created by my client from a multi-part graphic novel of which the first episode was already in print. However, this proposal was for a live-action tv series and as such had to reflect the medium and could not use a comic illustrated styled design. With thes

NIE! Designer - Tadeusz Trepkowski (1914-1956)
Designed by Tadeusz Trepkowski, NIE! (Polish for 'no') was the first Polish poster to make an impression on American designers. The ruins of a devastated city framed within the silhouette of a falling bomb, in its graphic way, was as expressive of the horrors of World War II as the numbing photographs of carnage published in Life and other American magazines. Anyone who saw multiples of this poster hanging in rows on what remained of Warsaw's streets understood that Nie was m

SIMPLICISSIMUS - A red bulldog stares menacingly through stone-cold white eyes
Founded in 1896 in Munich, Germany, Simplicissimus was one of the most biting, satirically critical magazines ever published. The red bulldog symbolized the Volk, or common people. The authorities used stern measures to muzzle the dog, but despite frequent censorship and periodic arrests, this illustrated tabloid rarely missed an appearance. The bulldog, designed by Thomas Theodore Heine (1867-1948) was arguabley inelegant. The poster lettering was crudely hand drawn, yet the
